John Weston loves assisting clients in his areas of focus: Strategic Advice, Government Relations and Constitutional Affairs. He thrives in cases involving two or more countries, types of law, and languages (he speaks Mandarin and French). John has worked at large and small firms in Asia and Canada since 1983. He’s licensed in B.C (non-practising), New York, and the U.K.
John’s approach is to keep overhead low to minimize costs, while nimbly expanding to create a provincial, national, or international team when necessary to serve a client’s best interests. His 39 years of experience in law, government, diplomacy, and business around the world allow him quickly to draw upon the skills and experience of others to complement his own capacity.
As Member of Parliament for West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea-to-Sky Country (2008-2015), he got two Private Members’ Bills passed, managed to get several items into national budgets, led the Canada-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, served as Canada’s Government Liaison to the Canadian-Iranian Community, and initiated a national movement to increase Canadians’ physical activity, to promote physical, mental, and spiritual health.
In terms of making a long-lasting difference, John launched the Canadian Constitution Foundation in 2003 and the Canadian Health and Fitness Institute in 2017. The CCF advocates for the rights of individual Canadians, against government overreach. CHFI seeks to “Make Canada the Fittest Nation on Earth by 2030” (chfi.fit).
Public speaker and author, he moderates the Things That Matter podcast video series.
His 2017 book On! Achieving Excellence in Leadership was recently released in Chinese.
John is married to Donna, a business-leader-turned-personal-trainer. They have three adult children - Shane, Jake, and Meimei.
